Tour Description

In this multiday tour package we combine some of our best tour options. You’ll get the chance to see the beautiful Western Iceland. There, you’ll explore the hidden gem of the West, the peninsula of Snæfellsnes also known as “Iceland in a nutshell”. Snaefellsnes is characterized by magnificent and picturesque sites: glacial-carved mountains, endless black beaches, moss topped lava fields, volcanic craters, coastal cliffs topped off by the volcanic glacier Snæfellsjökull and the Center of the Earth.

You’ll also get the chance to see the famous geothermal erupting Geysir, the powerful waterfall Gullfoss and Thingvellir National Park in the Golden Circle.

You’ll also be taken to the famous South Coast. Along the shore, you’ll get to see the two waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, and the famous Black Sand Beach. You’ll also visit the stunning Glacier Lagoon Jökulsárlón in Vatnajökull National Park, where you’ll also get the chance to explore Europe’s largest glacier and enter a blue ice cave. At night, our guide will provide you with the forecast of the Northern Lights, and if the conditions are favorable, he will suggest places near the hotel to view the magnificent Northern Lights.

Map and Itinerary

Day 1: Snæfellsnes

Day 1 is dedicated to exploring the magnificent Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often called "Iceland in Miniature," a stunning volcanic area in West Iceland. The adventure begins with a visit to the rare white sands of Ytri-Tunga Beach to observe a seal colony. You will then explore the picturesque Búðakirkja Black Church and the magnificent coastal cliffs of the Arnarstapi fishing village, learning local folklore. The journey continues past the imposing Lóndrangar basalt pinnacles and the black pebble beach of Djúpalónssandur. The day culminates at the iconic, Game of Thrones-featured Kirkjufell Mountain and its adjacent waterfall. You will spend the night near the peninsula, with an opportunity to search for the Northern Lights in the dark night sky.

Please note: The itinerary is subject to change due to weather, road conditions, and availability of activities. Your guide will always ensure the best and safest experience possible.

1

Pickup in Reykjavík

The tour departs at 8:00 AM from Reykjavík. After pickup, we board our comfortable minibus and head east out of the city. As we drive through the scenic countryside, your guide will share stories about Iceland’s history, culture, and unique geology—setting the tone for the adventure ahead.

2

Ytri Tunga Beach and Seal Colony

Next, we visit Ytri-Tunga beach, a rare white sand shore on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula that hides a charming secret: a seal colony. This spot is one of the best locations in Iceland to easily observe these curious seals lounging on the coastal rocks.

3

Búdakirkja: the Black Church of Búdir

Explore the iconic Búðakirkja, the famous Black Church, located on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula's south coast. This picturesque, historic chapel was originally built in $1703$ and stands dramatically isolated among a field of ancient lava rocks. The church is a listed building housing historic artifacts, and its unique, romantic setting makes it a key attraction in the area.

4

Arnarstapi Fishing Village

Explore a tiny fishing village with a picturesque coastline where magnificent cliffs were formed by hot lava meeting the wild Atlantic waves. This site, known as the most beautiful harbor in Iceland, now features dramatic stone arches and a remarkable marine geyser, which you can discover on a guided walk while learning the local folklore of Bárður, the half-man, half-troll. This unique location is a gem on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

5

Lóndrangar and Basalt Cliffs

Discover the imposing Lóndrangar, a pair of dramatic, $75 \text{ meter}$ high basalt pinnacles that dominate the southern coastline of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. These towering remnants of an ancient crater are a spectacular sight and host a diverse seabird colony, including puffins and northern fulmars.

6

Djúpalónssandur

Explore Djúpalónssandur, a unique beach of black volcanic sand and stones with a compelling history. Here, you can find the ancient "lifting stones" used by Icelandic fishermen to test their strength and fitness for sea life—feel free to try them yourself! The beach also features the scattered remains of a British trawler that wrecked in $1948$, serving as an eerie and powerful reminder of the Atlantic's raw might and the area's maritime history. This is a memorable stop on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula tour.

7

“The Church Mountain” Kirkjufell and Kirkjufellsfoss Waterfall

The iconic, narrow Kirkjufell Mountain has become the defining landmark of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Famously featured as the "Arrowhead Mountain" in Game of Thrones, this unique shape was carved by glaciers during the last Ice Age. It is one of Iceland's most photographed sights, especially with the beautiful Kirkjufellsfoss Waterfall visible just across the road, offering countless vantage points for the perfect picture.

Accommodation: Stykkishólmur-Inn with Breakfast

After completing your journey through West Iceland, Stykkishólmur-Inn offers a comfortable and welcoming stop in the largest town on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. This inn provides a restful base where you can enjoy the charming atmosphere of the harbor and prepare for your next day of exploring.

Day 2: The Golden Circle

Day 2 is dedicated to exploring the legendary Golden Circle route. After breakfast, your guide will pick you up to visit the three primary attractions. You will start at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where you can stand directly between the separating North American and Eurasian tectonic plates and explore the site of Iceland's first parliament. Next, you will visit the Haukadalur Geothermal Area to witness the famous Strokkur geyser erupting every few minutes. The final stop on the route is the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall, where you can see the powerful glacial river plunge down a deep canyon. Your day concludes at a countryside hotel strategically located for maximizing your chances of viewing the Northern Lights in the dark night sky.

Please note: The itinerary is subject to change due to weather, road conditions, and availability of activities. Your guide will always ensure the best and safest experience possible.

3

Geysir Geothermal Area

Explore the vibrant Haukadalur Geothermal Area, where the famous Strokkur geyser erupts spectacularly every 5 minutes, shooting water up to $35 \text{ meters}$. This stop highlights Iceland's raw energy and is named after the now-dormant Great Geysir, which gave its name to all geysers worldwide.
